The Federation of consumer associations (TÜDEF) announced that they are seriously concerned about the safety of their masks sold on the market and that all masks available on the market must be tested.
Bülent Deniz, president of the Federation of consumer associations, said that in a project conducted by the General Directorate of Product Safety of the Ministry of trade, they conducted a reliability study for products in the market, including masks.
”WE HAVE ACHIEVED EXTREMELY GRAVE RESULTS”
Bulent Deniz emphasized that they faced extremely grave consequences related to masks in the findings made within the scope of the research and pointed out that the citizen turned to masks produced under the stairs.
Deniz, under the stairs production prices are very low, noting that citizens should not be fooled by these prices warned.
A SUITABLE MASK CANNOT BE SOLD FOR 50 CENTS
’ When we examine these masks, unfortunately, we see that they are not registered in the product tracking system, they do not carry the qualifications in accordance with the standards set out by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Commerce, ” Deniz said, adding::
“Now you can find a mask for 50 cents or 70 cents. But it is not possible to sell the mask registered in the product tracking system and in accordance with the standards by producing it at these prices.’
UNDER-STAIRS MASKS SPREAD THE VIRUS
Masks under stairs that do not meet the established standards both make us believe that we are protected against viruses and lead us to imprudence with the perception that ‘I already wear a mask’.
‘In our opinion, the impact of these non-standard masks being sold on the market in the spread of the corona virus is high,’ Bulent Deniz commented.
So how do we know that a mask sold almost everywhere, from a pharmacy to a grocery store, from neighborhood markets to stationery stores, is of good quality?
UNDERSTAND THE REAL MASK IN TWO WAYS
Deniz explained about the issue, saying that there are two methods::
“First, we’re looking for a product tracking system code on the mask. Second, and more practical, we cut the mask from both sides and remove both sides to check if it passes water. We can say that waterproofing masks are suitable for use’
When they examine 5 masks with different characteristics, they see that only two of them are suitable, Deniz said, ‘the consumer needs to pay attention. Of course, price compliance is an important element for the consumer, but this issue is a serious situation related to health,’ he warned.
CITIZEN FREE MASK APPEAL
Deniz, who said that he had persistent calls for the provision of Free Mask services to The Citizen, said: ‘The Mask has now become an obligation of daily life. The state needs to give citizens the mask free of charge. The constant purchase of a mask that meets the standard by a middle-income family leads to deep shocks in the family budget. This is one of the biggest factors in the derivation of masks under stairs,’ he explained.
DOES THE WASHABLE CLOTH MASK PROTECT AGAINST THE VIRUS?
Proper use of masks in the fight against the covid-19 outbreak is vital for the Prevention of transmission. However, we have encountered many types of masks since the outbreak.
In this process, besides medical masks, washable cloth masks are also preferred in terms of ease of Use and price suitability. But cloth masks do not protect against the virus, according to some experts.
Bülent Deniz, President of the Federation of Consumers ‘ Union, explained that no expert has offered them a positive opinion on cloth masks, saying: ”Following the necessary methods of washing cloth masks carries a problem from the consumer’s point of view. In order not to give money, we see that the mask, which should be discarded after washing several times, continues to be used. We understand the consumer. After all, constantly giving money to the same product tires a person’s budget after a while. But we do not recommend a cloth mask,” he said.
“CLOTH MASKS ARE DANGEROUS FOR CHILDREN”
Aziz Koçal, President of the Federation of consumer associations, said that their masks were released completely unsupervised.
Kochal, who stated that there is no information about whether the masks sold have protective properties, also noted that cloth masks are a textile product and have any technical arrangement related to it.
Pointing to the chemicals used in painted masks, Koçal said: ”We constantly pull these substances into our lungs through the respiratory tract. Although there are no completed studies yet, painted cloth masks pose a threat, especially for our children,” he said.
Koçal, who stated that masks are now being sold even at stalls, said: ”it is important for public health to conduct the necessary inspections related to masks. Masks should not be sold everywhere,” he warned.
WARNING TO MASKS LOWERED UNDER THE CHIN
Koçal also drew attention to the masks lowered under the chin and used the following statements:
“Sometimes we lower the mask under the chin while eating or drinking tea. Lowering the mask under the chin we take viruses that are possible outside the mask into our body through the respiratory tract. Masks should not be kept under the chin. The mask should be completely removed while eating or drinking tea.”
Koçal, who once again underlined the use of healthy masks to prevent the virus from spreading, called for help from citizens at the point of purchase of the mask. ”Otherwise, the application of the mask will not give the expected result in general,” Koçal said.
